The Dunfermline subsea facility occupies more than 213,000 square feet and is responsible for the design and manufacturing of subsea trees and wellhead systems. Dunfermline also has a new, custom-built weld fabrication workshop. With dedicated project management and engineering teams on site, customer designs are released from a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, which adopts LEAN manufacturing techniques, and includes a machine shop equipped with the latest in machine tool technology such as horizontal boring mills, vertical turning centers, long-bed lathes, gun drilling machines and mill-turn centers. The weld shop incorporates a dedicated weld overlay and fabrication area including on site stress relieving facilities and adopts some of the best cladding practices in Europe. The assembly and test department has up to 60-ton crane capabilities, a dedicated external site integration test (SIT) area, six booths for component testing and two gas testing pits.
The Dunfermline weld fabrication workshop, which opened in 2010, produces and ships wellhead systems, a key component of FMC Technologies’ core product range. The work carried out at the 35,000 square foot plant is a critical part of the overall supply of wellhead systems, which are delivered to oil fields within the UK and Norwegian sectors of the North Sea as well as to deepwater fields offshore West Africa. The facility combines both manufacturing and office space and has dedicated areas for the fabrication of duplex-type material that is fully segregated from carbon steel. It is fully equipped with stress relieving equipment and features a radiography bay, complete with dark room and computerized radiography equipment, for inspection tasks to be carried out on site in real time.
